To properly control ants, an inspection of the property and surroundings is needed to identify the species of ant to be controlled and to determine the locations of any ant colonies and their sources of food and water. Once this has been done, treatment methods to control ants can include sanitation, removal of potential food sources, and application of baits, liquid and granular pesticides in strategic locations.

Residential Pest Control: Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are by far the most difficult pest to control and eradicate. The only sure method to eliminate bed bugs from a structure is fumigation. Other methods of controlling bed bugs include encasing mattresses in plastic to suffocate the bed bugs and to prevent bed bugs from entering the mattresses, application of insecticides in likely bed bug locations, and disposal of bed bug infested materials.

Residential Pest Control: Bees & Wasps

Wasps and bees are social insects and will defend their colonies when threatened. They have the ability to sting and will use this to discourage any threats to their colonies. Wasps and bees can be eradicated from a structure and controlled with a regular pest control program. Bees are highly beneficial to the ecosystem and agriculture, and it is only recommended to eradicate bee colonies as a last resort. It is best if a bee handler can be engaged to relocate any invasive bee colonies to more suitable locations.

If an infestation occurs, a methodical approach of sanitation and regular bait and pesticide application is most effective at controlling them.

Fleas and ticks are best controlled with insect growth regulators (IGRs). These pesticides prevent the insects from being able to develop from eggs to pupa to adults which is effective at eliminating such infestations. It is recommended to vacuum clean infested areas prior to treatment to stimulate any eggs to hatch so that the treatment will be most effective, and to immediately dispose of the contents of the vacuum cleaner to prevent the infestation from spreading.
